CHANTRY FLATS re-opens after four long years!

October 2, 2024 was the grand opening for Chantry Flats. The devastation from the Bobcat fire nearly destroyed the entire area of the Chantry Flats area. One of the more popular trails going to Mt Wilson and the Manzanita Ridge was affected. There are a few trails that were affected. Volunteer crews like the Restoration Legacy Crew (RLC) and others worked endlessly to restore alot of the trails.

Although most of the cabins burned, some were salvaged and burnt trees still fill this once beautiful oasis for hikers. Some of the vegetation have manage to flourish. There are now man made bridges more like wood planks over the water crossings. There is still evidence of foundation that was burned to a crisp. Some remnants of cabin ornaments and other items like pots and pans were left right were they were burned. Lots of things were obviously not salvageable.

One of the more popular trails like the Zion trail and the popular waterfalls like Hermit Falls are closed. The Sturtevant Falls trail is still open and the water is flowing nicely,

I hiked to Sturtevant falls, the Upper and Lower Winter Creek trail and it was nice. However, alot of exposure due to all the burnt trees. The good news is the Adams Pack Station is up and running. And the cute donkeys are there. They are being utilized to haul supplied to and from the Sturtevant camp area.

Currently, crew are still working on the Zion area.
