CARRIZO PLAINS

Carrizo Plains National Monument has been on my bucket list for years. I finally had the opportunity to see the superbloom. 

It was amazing. The hills were painted with vibrant collors of yellow, orange, purple and magenta.

With no plans in mind, I checked out several sites in and out of the park.

I visited the following areas:

Soda Lake

Wallace creek

7 mile road

Elkhorn Plains 

Shell creek

ANTELOPE VALLEY POPPY RESERVE

Today I took a group to the Antelope Poppy Reserve. We were hoping to see lots of wildflowers due to the recent rains. Unfortunately, there were nit as many poppies this year. 

However. We stumbled upon fields loaded with an array of wildflowers including orange poppies, purple owll clovers and others.

These were located a few blocks away from the preserve off of ave I/110th and Lancaster Road/110th.

The reserve itself had lots of marigolds, owl clovers, lupine and a few orand poppies but not many.

After finding the motherboard of poppies just a few blocks away we enjoyed a nice lunch at a mexican restaurant..

DEVILS CHAIR

I've been to the punchbowl before but never had the opportunity to hike to the Devils Chair.

I really enjoyed this trail. Its only 3.7 miles one way but the further I hiked the more remote the area seemed to be. I had most of the trail all to myself until I reached the outcropping of the Devils Chair. 

The scenery was beautiful and as I got closer to the DC summit, the rock formation reminded me of Neopolitan ice cream with their array of pastel colors.

At the time i hiked the water was flowing nicely and there was 5 small stream crossings.

On the return, i decided to hike the easy loop around the punchbowl and found a few wildflowers and a waterfall.
